Women's education is very important for the country to fully develop. Educated women are the weapon that yields a positive impact on Indian society through their contribution at home and in professional fields. They are the reason for the improved economy in the country as well as society. The women's education in ancient India was quite good but in the middle age, it deteriorated because of many restrictions against women. Sri Bharathi Engineering College for Women is the first Engineering College started only for women in Pudukkottai District. This college was seeded by Sri Bharathi Educational Trust in the year 2009 with five B.E/B.Tech courses to inculcate quality education for rural women. This institute is located on the outskirts of Pudukkottai, about 6 kilometers from Pudukkottai and almost in a rural atmosphere.
The undergraduate courses offered are - Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Information Technology. This College has a good digital library with high-speed internet facilities to the benefit of students and faculty. The library is well-equipped with around 14,000 volumes, International and National Journals and Magazines. This College has well-qualified faculties, an attractive and greenish environment, lucrative infrastructure and well-equipped laboratories. The main building has G+3 floors with a total carpet area of 80,000 Sq.feet and another building with G+1 floors with a carpet area of 27000 square feet. This College got permanent affiliation for two departments- Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Special Intensive Coaching classes were adopted to improve students' academic skills. Value-added Courses, Skill Development courses, Career development courses, Certificate courses, Aptitude and interview skill development courses were organized regularly to strengthen their employability skills and thereby enhance their employment probability. Eminent persons from research/academic/ industries were invited regularly, in order to share the experience and thoughts of those famous personalities among the students thereby enriching their innovative and research skills.
Sufficient transport facilities are available to cover adjoining rural areas and nearby towns to facilitate the staff and students to have easy access from home to college and back. The college administration has made elaborate arrangements for running the buses owned by the management to cover the students from remote rural areas also. The buses are from Pudukkottai, Arimalam, Alangudi, Aranthangi, Tirumayam, Nachanthupatti, Ponnamaravathi, Erichi, Karambakkudi, Pattukkottai, Keeramangalam, Narthamalai, Gandharvakkottai, Andakulam, Kattumaviduthi, Keeranur, Avudayar Koil, Silatur, Peravurani, Nagudi and other peripheral rural areas.
This College is provided a hostel facility. The hostel is located inside the campus. It has got good facilities and infrastructure which make students feel comfortable and find a homely atmosphere. Being away from the city pollution, the hostel is in a calm atmosphere. Ragging is strictly prohibited on campus. The college administration takes special care to see that all students get a balanced diet that is prescribed to keep them fit and to study better.
Cultural Activities, various festivals are celebrated here to develop student's extra-curricular skills and motivate their participating nature. This college behaves like a multi-faceted institution enhancing curricular, extracurricular, technical and interpersonal skills. Our college enhances social responsibilities through various social activities like blood donation, medical camp, various awareness programs, etc., along with NSS and YRC units. Various Clubs like Energy Club, Binary Brainers Club and Ada Lovelace Club were framed to promote communicational skills, aptitude skills and all other associated interpersonal skills. Even after the graduation of the students, this college takes immense steps for economic growth, through regular counseling through alumni associations.
